Vintage cars heading toward Durango!

Antique cars to Durango

Antique cars headed to Durango

Hwy 160 runs from Durango to Pagosa Springs and features scenic vistas. Sometimes it offers even more.

Today on our return trip to Durango from Bayfield we noticed several vintage vehicles ahead of us. Very Vintage! Then as luck would have it, we ended up stopped behind two of them at a highway construction happening.

Turned out the vehicle was a 1920 beauty from Iowa! Who would have thought of traveling that far in a car of that vintage? What would you do for parts in the event of a break down? Where would you find a mechanic who could work on something of that age? How brave to make that drive! Wonder what kind of gas mileage those cars get? It seems incredible that they have made it this far from where ever they started out!

There must be an antique event somewhere in Durango, but we have not heard anything about it. We will be looking all around when we get back in town this evening.

Vintage cars have always been an interest of mine. In my youth I even indulged in building vintage model cars. The oldest I ever attempted was a 1932 Ford. Imagine one in Candy Apple Red with rolled and Pleated seats.

There is something incredibly splendid about the lines of those Vintage Vehicles.

How many times have you encountered a convoy of Antique cars? Just one more of the super perks of living in Durango Colorado!  In the event a trip to the Durango area is in your future don’t forget to call us 970-759-1007!  We’re Ralph and Jeanne…. The Durango Home Team

Durango Mountain Resort aka Purgatory

Durango Mountain Resort

Grand Entrance to Durango Mountain Resort

One of the most spectacularly gorgeous places around Durango is Durango Mountain Resort.

It was known for years as Purgatory. The resort consortium decided that “Purgatory” had a negative connotation and spent millions of dollars to build a new image and the new name.

As far as we can tell, the area is still known as Purgatory, but it does have lots of new attractions attracting tourists. Now if we can just have some snow this year!!

This area whatever you know it as, is full of investment opportunities from cozy condos to magnificent mansions. Everything has stunning views!

If owning a full year round home or a vacation condo or townhome is your dream, call the Durango Home Team at Keller Williams Realty @ 970-759-1007 and share your desires with us. We, Ralph and Jeanne Janisch are the Durango Home Team, combining 60 years of Real Estate experience so we can lead you down the home path with caring and expertise. We will put together a Durango Dream tour for you and watch for any pitfalls along the way.

Feel free to browse at will on this site and then if you have questions or concerns, give us; “The Durango Home Team” a call! We also work evenings and weekends to make the journey to home ownership quick and easy for you!

After all, no one wants to experience a slippery slope or icy surprises even when it comes to Durango Mountain or Purgatory… however you know it!

Virtuous Vallecito!

A view of the Lake

A view of the Lake

Small, tranquil and extremely appealing are some of the words that come to mind when we think about the Vallecito Lake area just North of Durango.

It features a large lake area with cabins both for year round use and vacations. Wildlife is plentiful, and you may find that the artistic tendencies within you come to full fruition. Generate thoughts of peace and pleasure during your stay in this glorious spot.

The lake is surrounded by magnificent mountains that are splendid all year long. In the winter they sparkle with the snow. When the lake is frozen, the entire area looks like a winter wonderland.
There are marinas, businesses and restaurants which add to the overall resort flair.
Vallecito is close enough to Bayfield to have easy access to shopping and employment opportunities.
In 2002 there was a horrific fire which ruined hundreds of acres of towering timber. The aftermath was heart wrenching, but today the forest is making a magnificent comeback. Once again there is beauty all around.

Whether you plan a short day trip or wish to stay for a lifetime, Vallecito should definitely be on your list of places to experience.

We. (Ralph and Jeanne) “The Durango Home Team’ know the Vallecito area well, and would be delighted to put together a Dream Tour for you. Let us know what the desires of your heart are and the objectives you wish to achieve. Give us a call at 970-759-1007 or exercise our email : ralph@durangohometeam.com

You Missed this today in Durango CO

DSCN0161While at the Farmers Market today in downtown Durango, we were told by one of the vendors that we should go by the coffee event that the City had cordoned off eighth street for.

Events are always fun! This one featured different coffee offerings from all our local purveyors down to an ice cream covered with coffee syrup.

Unexpected but totally appreciated was the band in the featured video. Anyone who was not moving something anatomical during that performance, was either deaf, or dead!

There is so much talent in Durango, you never know who or what you may see! We even saw Ralphs dentist playing the trombone in that rockin band! Wow! The music was simply awesome. The video is good but being there was unbelievable.

4 Corner Motorcycle rally

Four Corners Motorcycle rally in Durango CO

Every year around Labor Day, the town of Durango Colorado becomes varoom central.

Thousands of motorcycles worth millions of dollars in total descend upon this usually tranquil place with all the thunderous vibrations they can muster.

All the parking places become display points for these two and three wheeled vehicles. And the riders strut up and down Main Street showing off themselves and their magnificent machines.

The owners of these marvelous machines tour the main streets both on bikes and off.

The costumes for riding are colorfully displayed for days both before the rally and after.

The town welcomes these visitors with open arms as they also kindly and generously stimulate the economy. They frequent all the foodies, stores and campgrounds.

This year most of the festivities and the host campgrounds are in Mancos Colorado, a short but beautiful 25 mile drive from Durango.

The highways all around will resound with varoom noises of various intensities. This will probably help keep wildlife off the roads!

Durango always has a lot going on. There are always a lot of motorcycles around. Labor Day weekend just has more variety and more varoom! The sights and sounds are pretty interesting!!

Stand out

Jeanne and Ralph

Jeanne and Ralph dressed to stand out.

For the past sixteen years, off and on, we have used our wardrobe to stand out in the crowded field. With 300 plus agents in a small town, it is easy to just blend into the woodwork, that technique will not generate any potential business or contacts.

As the “Durango Home Team”. We have steadily acquired a collection of matching shirts . Some of them are an exact match, and others are simply similar. It is obvious that we got dressed in the same house.

During the Labor Day motorcycle rally we wore our most colorful Patriotic shirts. As we walked down Main Street to and from lunch, we received many compliments, and a couple of people actually stopped us to converse. We think that is a positive sign. We knew that we are friendly and approachable. Now we need to incorporate being sure we distribute cards when we are approached. Why not?

In a competitive market, all of us need to find a way to stand out. The shirts have always worked to different degrees. They seem to be working better than ever now.

It is our hope that even if people do not remember our names, they can walk in our office and ask for the old folks who dress alike. We will accept that all day long. It also means that if one of us gets lost for some reason, all we have to do is tell people to look for the person wearing a shirt just like the one they see on us. Branding and marketing can be so much fun! It is practical in this business to “Stand out”!

Just a couple of basics made themselves obvious when we were showing a couple of days ago.

When we arrived at one of the scheduled properties, we knocked on the door, rang the bell and waited. When there was no answer we exercised our lock box key and entered. We toured the kitchen, half bath and living area. Suddenly we heard our client talking to someone.

She said, ” there is someone here!” The someone asked me if our appointment had not been earlier. I told her that we had asked for 1-5 since the properties were spread out a good distance. She said that was not what she had been told. She then said that we had not knocked on the door. I explained that we had knocked, rung the bell and called out when we opened the door.

Our client asked me if she would rather we not be there. I asked the owner if she would prefer that we reschedule. In a hostile voice she said that since we were there, she would just leave us to look around.

We told her that we were sorry to have inconvenienced her and that we felt bad about the missed communication. She huffed around and left.

The experience should not have happened. The seller had been told a different time of day for the showing. When we did not appear when she thought we should she shut herself off in a back room. No doubt she did not hear our opening efforts.

The welcoming tainted the showing. To make things worse the write up on the listing failed to mention that the three bedrooms in the walkout basement were not finished. The house w as built in the late 1990s. The Sheetrock was not finished, the flooring was not finished and the bedroom windows were not up to code. Had we known those details, we probably would not have chosen to show that house.

In failing to mention the details we found upon showing, the agent did not set up a positive showing experience for any of us.

Getting properties sold require communication and truth. Nothing short of those two elements create less than positive results.
