Ride to Work in Durango

Bicycles in Durango

There is a large banner across Main Street. It is advertising “ride your bike to work day.

Sure! That would be lovely if you lived close to work… Like next door.
It might be more realistic if you had ridden a bike in the past twenty years, and if you owned a bike.

It is amazing how even the thought of a lengthy bicycle ride makes the muscles in my legs tighten up! This is right up there with “to dream the impossible dream!”

To be honest, my bicycle riding days ended with the acquisition of a drivers license.

I rode one for years and then traded the discomforts of wind sweat and weather for the comforts of enclosed transportation .

No doubt I was healthier before my advance in comfort, but those days are so far past, it does not seem practical to try to return to my youth.

So, while I take my hat off to the idea and to those who can embrace the concept, but, at least this year, the bike day will not see me participating! For the rest of you… Ride on!

Nathaniels Hat Shop in Mancos CO

Have you ever been inside a Hat shop? Granted…. it’s not in Durango but it’s close enough over in Mancos CO. I am talking about one of those rare shops where hats are custom made.

Whether you have, or have not, it is an experience that you would probably enjoy.

The process is an intensive art form. The choices of fabrics are greater than I had dreamed. The choices of designs and styles are wide and varied.

Everyone really need’s a hat in this climate. In fact each season should have its own. Sunburned scalp is not attractive or comfortable.

Since we lose heat through our head, winter also begs for protection. It is not so much a fashion statement as it is a health accessory. We just do feel more comfortable when we dress correctly.

The art of hat making requires a combination of tools, knowledge and skill.

Would it surprise you to know that there is a master craftsman in a small shop in downtown Mancos?

We stopped in to take a look a couple of months ago. Look evolved into purchase. Ralph was able to select a beautiful beaver pelt to have his custom masterpiece made from. It will be ready for wear in October. By then we may be able to decide what sort of hatband would look best.

Be assured that Ralph is looking forward to his new winter hat. We will share its completion with you then.

Durango Diner in Durango CO 81301

Durango Diner Counter

Your momma probably told you not to judge a book by its cover.

It is also a good idea not the judge a dining establishment by its exterior.

We had heard about the Durango Diner all the years we lived in Durango before, but we never went there. It was not that it looked bad, it just did not appeal to our senses.

Since we have been back, having found that we preferred living in Durango to anywhere else, we have eaten a lot of breakfast meals.

When our favorite two places proved to be waaaayyyy too crowded last week we decided to give the Durango Diner a try.

What a neat experience! Nothing fancy, just really good food and plentiful amounts of it! We had a heaping plate full of hash browns, bacon, eggs and toast at a reasonable price. There were many other choices too.

Not only good food was found , but an entertaining wait staff is there too. We can say that we did not have a single dull minute during the entire time we were there.

If you walk out of this diner without a pleasant attitude, you just flat are not trying!

Durango Mountain Resort aka Purgatory

Durango Mountain Resort

Grand Entrance to Durango Mountain Resort

One of the most spectacularly gorgeous places around Durango is Durango Mountain Resort.

It was known for years as Purgatory. The resort consortium decided that “Purgatory” had a negative connotation and spent millions of dollars to build a new image and the new name.

As far as we can tell, the area is still known as Purgatory, but it does have lots of new attractions attracting tourists. Now if we can just have some snow this year!!

This area whatever you know it as, is full of investment opportunities from cozy condos to magnificent mansions. Everything has stunning views!

If owning a full year round home or a vacation condo or townhome is your dream, call the Durango Home Team at Keller Williams Realty @ 970-759-1007 and share your desires with us. After all, no one wants to experience a slippery slope or icy surprises even when it comes to Durango Mountain or Purgatory… however you know it!

You Missed this today in Durango CO

DSCN0161While at the Farmers Market today in downtown Durango, we were told by one of the vendors that we should go by the coffee event that the City had cordoned off eighth street for.

Events are always fun! This one featured different coffee offerings from all our local purveyors down to an ice cream covered with coffee syrup.

Unexpected but totally appreciated was the band in the featured video. Anyone who was not moving something anatomical during that performance, was either deaf, or dead!

There is so much talent in Durango, you never know who or what you may see! We even saw Ralphs dentist playing the trombone in that rockin band! Wow! The music was simply awesome. The video is good but being there was unbelievable.

4 Corner Motorcycle rally

Four Corners Motorcycle rally in Durango CO

Every year around Labor Day, the town of Durango Colorado becomes varoom central.

Thousands of motorcycles worth millions of dollars in total descend upon this usually tranquil place with all the thunderous vibrations they can muster.

All the parking places become display points for these two and three wheeled vehicles. And the riders strut up and down Main Street showing off themselves and their magnificent machines.

The owners of these marvelous machines tour the main streets both on bikes and off.

The costumes for riding are colorfully displayed for days both before the rally and after.

The town welcomes these visitors with open arms as they also kindly and generously stimulate the economy. They frequent all the foodies, stores and campgrounds.

This year most of the festivities and the host campgrounds are in Mancos Colorado, a short but beautiful 25 mile drive from Durango.

The highways all around will resound with varoom noises of various intensities. This will probably help keep wildlife off the roads!

Durango always has a lot going on. There are always a lot of motorcycles around. Labor Day weekend just has more variety and more varoom! The sights and sounds are pretty interesting!!

Welcome to Durango

Welcome to Durango Colorado

This website has been designed for you! Your convenience and your ease of finding answers that work for you!

Our goal here is to provide easy to access information about all the best values in the greater Durango area. That includes: Bayfield, Ignacio, Hesperus, Hermosa, Mancos and Dolores.

We love this area more with each passing day. We were not blessed with being born here. We had to wait and work hard to make our dream of living here a reality! Then we foolishly allowed it to be removed. It did not take long to discover there’s no place else that felt as much like home. No place else will ever work for us. Getting back was a struggle, but we are back to stay.

Along the way to living our dream, we accumulated 60 combined years of real estate experience. That included lots of marketing seminars in a big city setting. It has been said that you never learn anything that you do not need. All we know is that we learned lots in and out of classes. We would have preferred to spend all that time here!

Learning the area is an on going experience. We have now logged almost eight years and counting. Being where you love makes a huge difference. We understand that love factor inside and out!

Putting all our energy into our work is a daily drive!

If you will share your Durango Dream with us, be assured that we will consider it a sacred privilege to help you make it come true! It may be that the property you seek is not currently on the market. It may also be that we know of one that is coming on soon, or one that the sellers do not even know they want to sell…yet.

Durango was once a mining town. Today we prospect for properties that are like gems. Some are rough, but with a little polish and vision, they can sparkle and shine.

If you would prefer to do your own searching, the tools are right here on this site. We won’t bother you. Your privacy and individuality will always be respected! We understand that even prospecting for just the right gem of a home is fun!

Feel free to browse at will. Exercise your dreams and have fun! We will continue to fine tune the site and make it available for you. If you need answers to questions, directions, or to view anything… Let us hear from you. We truly want to be of help.

Now, if you are a seller, you also can access information to help you assess the value of your present property. If you want help, we will happily provide you with a personal market evaluation and market plan. We do these at NO Charge…. As in free! Really!

No two properties are the same so we believe that each one merits its very own market plan. We think you will be pleased that you gave us an opportunity to audition for the sales job you need to have done. Yep! That gives you ultimate control.

Since we have done 300 to 400 broker price opinions yearly for banks and savings and loan entities, and have done them since 1982, we have a pretty good handle on the market. We will honestly show you what you can expect to walk away from the closing table with.

Should you decide that you wish to position your property for sale, we offer special services and two agents for the price of one. Since our affiliation with Keller Williams we find that as The Durango Home Team we can offer even better marketing services than ever. Know that we will handle every phases of your listing or property search if you desire. We never hand things off to assistants. We assist each other in achieving your goals. Your total satisfaction is our goal from day one for as long as it takes to get there.

You have nothing to lose by granting us a chance to visit with you. Our goal in everything we do is to make everyone we work with feel like they are truly a winner. 95 percent of our closest friends have been our clients in buying , selling, or both. Read the testimonials elsewhere on the website. Then, let us know when and how we can help you.

We can and will help your property be an outstanding value in the Durango market! Imagine having it available for people to look at and study twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred sixty five days of the year.

Wait til you see how we position it on the website! Love it, or we will change it for you! Remember! This website was designed for YOU! How will you make use of it?

Why Durango?

Rainbow over Durango

Rainbow over Durango

My first exposure to Durango Colorado, resulted in it having an unmistakable hold on my heart. Perhaps it was a form of “Rocky Mountain” highs.

I dreamed of living here for many years, and in May of 2000 Ralph came with me to see what I had talked about so often.

The why about my love for this place spilled out on Ralph and he began to love it too.

His reasons are similar but probably are centered around the beauty and photographic opportunities.

There are also things like clean air and water. Uncrowded roads, ceaseless natural beauty, friendly genuine residents and a creative spirit that renews itself daily.

There are daily celebrations of life here. Weekly festivals and themes allow for endless possibilities to grow and to learn. We celebrate rain, snow, art, holidays, ethnicity, river ups and downs, plants, food, in addition to accomplishments and goal setting. Life is really for living to its fullest.

Whether your passions involve nature, hiking, biking, canoeing, or any other outdoor pursuits, the climate here allows for enjoying the great outdoors. Yes, it gets cold, but the dry air feels much better than humid climates. There is abundant sunshine in the high desert and there are few days when indoors feels better than out.

History is rich throughout the area. The fact that the pioneers accomplished what they did with the adversities they had, shows the can do spirit which permeates the thought processes of all who live and work here.

The real estate market, which is how we have chosen to make a living since 1978, is challenging. There are many agents, many of whom have lived here all their lives. We were not blessed to be born here, but we worked hard to get here as soon as we could. We learned a lot of big city marketing skills along the way. It makes for No dull moments!

Now we know the area, and keep up with all the trends. Ralph studies all the latest technology all the time!

Fortunately we have been led to affiliate with a major firm which we feel will provide us with the environment we need to learn more, and to give our clients and customers the service they deserve.

We wake up daily grateful for the opportunity to live in an area that makes our hearts sing. Giving back is a priority for us here. Our desire is to help others realize their dreams. It is a one step at a time program to which we happily subscribe.

The whys are many, but the most evident one is we love it more than any other place we have been. It would be our joy to show anyone who is interested in knowing more, how and why spending time in Durango is a happy decision.
