Now…. These are places we personally recommend!!

Oscar’s Cafe ~ 970-247-0526,  18 Town Plaza, Durango Colorado 81301

Good old fashioned breakfast at Oscar’s is a must. It must be good because you usually have to wait in line! Sometimes out the door. But trust me it’s worth it. Everything from eggs (your way) to hash brown potatoes and pancakes. If you go away hungry it’s not our fault.

Olde Tymer’s Cafe ~ 970 259 2990,   1000 Main Ave, Durango, CO 81301

A good old standby cafe right down town.  Everything from burgers and beer to Shrimp and Fish baskets and salads.  It’s been here long enough to be a Durango classic!  Pop in with the family for a tasty bite.  And, in the summer the outdoor patio is absolutely wonderful.

Pura Vida Cafe ~ 970-884-2766,  14810 CR 501, Bayfield, CO 81122

Good food that will make your mama cry!  I had the best Chicken Fried Steak I’ve ever had.  Jeanne had the Fish and Chips!!  Both were exceptional. Then of course there are the burgers in about a dozen different varieties.  The atmosphere is casual with a view of Lake Vallecito either from the dining room  or the outdoor patio.  The staff is very friendly.  So…. to sum it up, the atmosphere is relaxing, the staff is wonderful and the food is to die for.  This place apparently opened before we moved away but we didn’t find it until we got back.  Put it on your must do list when you visit Durango!!  THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT!

Franciscos Restaurant ~ 970-247-4098,  619 Main Avenue, Durango Colorado 81301

Excellent Mexican cuisine in a casually elegant Durango setting.  Bring the family and enjoy lunch or dinner.

Gazpacho New Mexican Cooking y Cantina ~ 970-259-9494,  431 E 2nd Ave,Durango CO

Yes!!  There is a difference in Mexican and New Mexican foods.  The New Mexican cuisine is generally a spicier and has some nuances that make it pleasingly distinct.  Think…. Hatch Chilies!!
